Xavier is currently the Head of General Insurance Risk at AXA Hong Kong.

“In my role as Head of General Insurance Risk for AXA, a multinational direct insurer, I mainly focus on retail Lines of Businesses, but also touch on the Commercial business. The main function of my role is to liaise with other 1st-line departments (e.g. pricing, reserving, underwriters) to review their work. Most days are quite smooth if business goes well; however, problems arise when I have to provide unfavorable review comments (e.g. when the underwriters wish to bind a policy, but I feel that the performance has been poor). In these situations, I then have to negotiate further with the teams on remediation plans or mitigation actions.
After work, I usually head off to the gym for about an hour – as it helps me take a mental break. Quite often, I find that I get solutions to work-problems during my gym sessions! I try to spend another hour or so reading about non-actuarial topics just to expand my knowledge (at the moment my interest is on behavioral economics).”
